"We are all visual people"
I have been taking a great course at SUNY Ulster called Intro to Design Foundation. During last week’s class, the instructor Michelle Moore (@michellemooredesigns; michellemooredesigns.com) opened a discussion on Instagram and website presentations by commenting “We are all visual people.”
Not so fast. I am not yet a visual person. Eighteen months ago, I was still practicing law full time. My success was defined by the skillful use of words: turn of phrase; where to put a comma; when to split an infinitive; what to bury in a subordinate clause.
So I am in transition, its progress still being measured in “firsts”:
First urban sketch (March 2, 2020):

First garden design rendered (August 17, 2021):

First scene in watercolor (February 23, 2022):

First painting en plein air (June 21, 2022):

As time passes, I expect this blog and the accompanying galleries to track my transformation into a “visual person.” I have already in mind a list of hoped-for future firsts: a confident sketch in pen and ink; a watercolor street scene; the ability to marry computerized renderings with watercolor images of home and land; saying “I am an artist” out loud.
I hope someone out there reads this and shares their own transformation and new skills. I could use the help and welcome the opportunity to return the support.
You are an artist! Beautiful work Kathy!
